For the filling:

  • 3 pears (peeled, and chopped into small cubes)
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon corn starch
  • 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

For the topping:

  • 1/2 cup old-fashioned oats
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1/3 cup melted butter (salted or unsalted)


  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Prepare an 8-inch square baking pan with non-stick cooking spray.
  • In a large mixing bowl, add all of the filling ingredients and toss together to combine. Transfer mixture to the baking pan.
  • In a small mixing bowl, add all of the topping ingredients and toss together to combine. Be sure the brown sugar doesn't stay clumped up.
  • Spread the topping over the pear mixture.
  • Bake for 30-35 minutes, until the pears are cooked through and the topping is golden brown.


You can substitute apples for the pear.
Use any type of nut you prefer.
For an added bonus, add some chocolate chips to the topping mix.
